Shifting perspectives: outlooks on ageing in place in the COVID-19 era

Abstract Given the significant impact pandemic has had on lives of older adults, research is needed to understand how conceptions ageing in place and attitudes about living independently may have shifted during a time marked by environmental change. There gap knowledge adults characterise positive support for response rapid changes physical social environments, including home confinement, reduced interaction greater barriers resources. To fill this gap, we conducted photovoice study with community-dwelling (N = 17) their experiences adapting conditions influenced behaviours towards place. We organised data into five themes: (1) importance proximity family loved ones; (2) ability balance safety connectivity; (3) an increased appreciation outdoors; (4) new platforms learning; (5) role inner belief systems. Adapting attitudes, expectations through physical, personal domains highlights change within ecological framework ageing. Findings contribute ongoing discourse identifying that make at individual, interpersonal system levels. This paper adds literature characteristics prioritise era. The also contributes growing body elicits participation offers co-creation adults. Lessons learned from will continue shape inform future policies
